Watch: how to cancel, step by step

How to cancel on the web

You need to be the account owner, an admin, or have a role with billing privileges.

  1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal at zoom.us.
  2. Click your profile picture or initials in the top-right corner, then Plans and billing.
  3. Open the Current Plans or Plan Management tab. You'll see all your plans with their renewal dates.
  4. Cancel add-ons first. If you have extras like Large Meetings, Cloud Recording storage or Zoom Webinars, click Cancel Plan next to each one. Zoom won't let you cancel the main plan while add-ons are active.
  5. Click Cancel Plan next to your main plan and confirm.

You'll get a confirmation email, and the plan will show as pending cancellation. Everything keeps working until the end of the current term, then the account switches to free Zoom Basic.

If you pay through the App Store or Google Play

If you upgraded to Zoom Pro in the Zoom mobile app, Apple or Google bills you, and Cancel Plan won't show up in the web portal.

  • iPhone or iPad: open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions > Zoom > Cancel Subscription.
  • Android: open the Google Play Store, tap your profile picture, then Payments and subscriptions > Subscriptions > Zoom and tap Cancel subscription.

Refunds for app store purchases are handled by Apple or Google.

Team and enterprise plans: the admin route

Bought through Zoom sales (a quote or contract)? You may still be able to cancel in Plans and billing. If Cancel Plan is grayed out or missing, contact your Zoom account executive, or open the Zoom Virtual Agent chat on the support site and type "cancel". Changes apply at the end of the term on your quote.

Managed by another organization or a reseller? You may not be able to cancel yourself. Ask whoever manages the account.

Business plan with many licenses? You don't have to cancel to pay less. Remove licenses from people who don't host meetings (see below) and lower the license count before renewal.

Downgrade or remove seats instead of canceling

Most companies overpay for Zoom because of licenses, not the plan. Check these before you cancel:

  • Licensed users who never host. Only people who host meetings need a paid license. Anyone who just joins calls can be a free Basic user. In User Management > Users, switch them to Basic.
  • Add-ons nobody uses. Large Meetings, extra Cloud Recording storage and Webinar licenses often renew long after the event that needed them. Cancel them separately in Plans and billing.
  • Pause instead of cancel. On Zoom Workplace Pro with 3 or fewer licenses and monthly billing, you can pause the plan for up to 3 months. Your data is kept, and you can resume any time.
  • Two video tools. If your team also pays for Google Meet or Microsoft Teams, you may not need Zoom licenses for everyone.

Subscope helps here: it shows which Zoom licenses nobody has used in 30 days, so you can cut them before renewal instead of canceling for everyone.

What happens to your data

When the paid term ends, your account becomes free Zoom Basic. You can still sign in and join or host short meetings.

The big one is cloud recordings: they stay available for 30 days after the plan ends, then they're permanently deleted and can't be recovered. Download every recording you want to keep before you cancel.

Paid features like longer meetings, more participants and add-ons stop at the end of the term.

Frequently asked questions

Will I get a refund if I cancel Zoom?

Canceling doesn't trigger a refund. Your plan stays active until the end of the current term and won't renew. For app store purchases, ask Apple or Google.

Why is the Cancel Plan button grayed out?

Usually because you still have active add-ons (cancel them first), you bought through Zoom sales, or you subscribed in the mobile app. Sales contracts are canceled through your account executive or the Zoom Virtual Agent chat.

What happens to my cloud recordings?

They're kept for 30 days after your paid plan ends, then deleted for good. Download them before you cancel, or resubscribe within 30 days to keep them.

Can I pause Zoom instead of canceling?

Yes, on Zoom Workplace Pro with 3 or fewer licenses billed monthly. You can pause for up to 3 months in Plans and billing > Plan Management > Manage. Your data is kept while paused.

How do I stop paying for Zoom users who don't host meetings?

Change them from Licensed to Basic in User Management > Users, then lower your license count. Only hosts need a paid license.

Why is this guide on Subscope?

Subscope helps companies keep their software subscriptions under control. Connect Gmail or Outlook, and Subscope finds your software receipts and renewal emails and shows everything you pay for in one dashboard. It reminds you before renewals and shows which tools your team actually uses, so you never overspend on software, AI and cloud services.
